Kibou Botanicals is the number one kratom vendor in Durham, NC. It is only one of three shops offering kratom in the Duke University area, but it has already risen to the top of search results and earned itself a five-star rating.
With two beloved locations in the Old North State, a wave of online support, and a newly minted online store that’s blowing up, Kibou Botanicals would seem like the place to be. So, is Kibou Kratom as legit as it seems or is this another shady smoke shop exploiting a trend? Find out all the answers in our comprehensive Kibou Botanicals Vendor Review.
Kibou Botanicals takes its name from a Japanese word meaning ‘hope,’ which is fitting given its mission statement. Kibou Botanicals’ goal has been to enrich the lives of people from all walks of life with its all-natural products. If one goes on Google reviews and social media engagement, one could safely guess that it has fulfilled its mission.
Although it has enjoyed much success both in person and online, we are a bit turned off by its dearth of background information; we were unable to find any Kibou, Kibou LLC or Kibou Botanicals registered as a business in the state of North Carolina. On the other hand, we found several companies with ‘kibou’ in their name across the United States. These included Kibou LLC, an entity registered in Florida, and Kibou Enterprises, LLC, a business registered in Missouri. Others include Kibou, L.L.C., in Kansas, and Kibou Mirai, LLC, in Nevada.
It is unclear whether any of the aforementioned business entities are related to Kibou Botanicals or if they merely share a word in common. However, we are concerned about the lack of business registration for this vendor. Most legitimate companies conduct their businesses appropriately and professionally, following the letter of the law to achieve their dreams. Based on our research, Kibou Botanicals may or may not have taken some shortcuts to its success.
This vendor’s packaging is top-notch, with vacuum-sealed baggies and resealable pouches. Packages are easily discernible from one another, both by strain name and color. All are compact and easy to store, with relevant information appearing on the front and/or back.
As we mentioned earlier, Kibou Botanicals has received a lot of love from online kratom forums and the community at large. The brand has received more than seven hundred likes on Facebook alone, with reviews and name drops on platforms like Google, Nice Local, and Reddit.
This vendor’s website lacks almost everything we normally look for in an e-commerce site – background information, lab results, payment method page, refund policy, the seal of approval, and strain origins. This would normally set off a number of alarms, we find it absolutely normal for an e-commerce startup.
To explain: when you are dealing with a multimillion-dollar wholesale kratom brand with international representation, you expect a certain level of professionalism and transparency. On the other hand, small ma-and-pa businesses, especially ones that are new to the internet, are expected to learn their lessons through trial and error. A North Carolina apothecary opening its first online store certainly falls under the latter category. Therefore, we can cut them some slack and give them the benefit of the doubt where others might not fare so well.
In spite of its minimalism, the site is quite attractive and easy to navigate. Pages are neatly and spaciously laid out beside each other, with a vista-style border of sorts that boasts a serene image of Mitragyna speciosa leaves swaying in tropical moisture. Product pages are divided between CBD and Kratom, respectively.
As a retail outlet, Kibou Botanicals stocks a variety of popular kratom brands, such as Kratom Kaps, K Shot, Liquid K, MIT 45, OPMS, Viva Zen, and Zion Gold. But it is Kibou Kratom, the in-house kratom powders of Kibou Botanicals that are most worthy of discussion.
Kibou Botanicals carries no fewer than twenty kratom strains in three vein colors, as well as several signature kratom blends. Kratom hybrids and fermented kratom are also made available along with its house blends. Each of these products is offered in both capsule and powder form.
These strains and blends include Batak, BV-7, Gold Bali, Green Bali, Green Dragon, Green Goblin, Green Horn, Green Hulu Kapuas, Green Jongkong, Green Ketapang, Green Pucuk, Sumatra, Nirvana, Pink Cloud, Red Borneo, Red Dragon, Red Elephant, Red Hulu, Red Indo, Red Jongkong, Red Ketapang, Red Maeng Da, Red Royale, SD Yellow, Super Red, Super Yellow, Super White, White Borneo, White Dragon, White Elephant, White Horn, White Hulu, White Ketapang, White Lightning, White Maeng Da, White Pucuk, WhiteWhite Sky, White Thai, and Yellow Vietnam.
Kibou Botanicals’ pricing may be its most peculiar aspect; this vendor sells its kratom by the gram, with prices starting at thirty-five cents per gram. You can get two hundred grams for $70 or two hundred fifty grams for $60.00.
For those unfamiliar with market standards, that is at least twelve cents more than the industry average. For example, Kona Kratom charges $54.99 for two hundred fifty grams, while Earth Kratom charges $49.99 for the same.
There are some “breaks” on price, according to Kibou Botanicals staff; you pay less if you buy bulk kratom. However, the break does not measure up to the discounts offered by the most prominent bulk kratom suppliers. For the sake of comparison, Kibou Botanicals charges $174 for a kratom kilo, while Bulk Kratom Now charges just $79.99.
Kibou Botanicals currently accepts cash or credit cards. Checks, crypto, and Google Pay are not accepted at this time. To inquire about alternative payment options, you can reach the store by calling 704-418-7998.
Kibou Kratom coupon codes and general store promotions are typically accessible on one of the company’s two Facebook pages. There you will find fifty percent off Black Friday deals, 4/20 discounts, and similar promotions.
Kibou Kratom isn’t exactly a hot topic quite yet; there have been no references to this brand on Double M Herbals or I Love Kratom, and Reddit has only mentioned the brand in passing. There have been no significant reviews or comments on popular kratom-related sites. However, it has received acclaim from those who have tried it.
One return customer said, “I can’t compare it to other places, b/c this is the only one I’ve been to, but that said, the salesmen are very friendly, knowledgeable and no pressure, that I never have a need to go anywhere else. The choice and variety of products are excellent, the atmosphere is laid back and they are willing to take the time to engage with the customer, answer any questions they may have, and allow you to take your time. Also, super clean establishment, the floor is wide open, making it appear sparse, but the products lining the walls are almost overwhelming. You could spend an hour just browsing (if you’re like me) in a place that’s maybe 40 footsteps from one counter to the opposite wall. Couldn’t recommend them more!”
Another customer agreed, writing, “Riding down Durham-chapel hill blvd and stumbled upon this place with my son. Both of us felt like we walked into our dream store. Fresh Kratom, CRYSTALS!, jewelry, CBD, COMIC BOOKS, old vinyls, and many other things. Awesome place, I highly suggest you check out this new Durham Gem.”
Yet another customer said, “Incredibly knowledgeable & friendly staff. They were able to answer all of my questions in such a way that it was really evident how passionate they are about the products that they carry. Can’t recommend them enough! They also even carry soap that has been working wonders for my skin! I can’t wait to go back!”
We were unable to locate any negative feedback regarding this brand or its establishments. There have been no negative comments on Google, no formal complaint lodged with the Better Business Bureau, and no mention of Kilbou Botanicals in any lists of lesser-known vendors.
What’s more, Kibou Botanicals has not been named in any lawsuits, pending or otherwise. You can rest assured knowing that its existing clientele is loyal and satisfied. Despite its lack of industry credentials, Kibou Kratom is a trusted brand.
No. This vendor does not appear to submit its kratom powders to third-party laboratories. However, its facilities are said to be meticulous and it has followed all state and federal guidelines where sanitary matters are concerned.
Maybe. It would certainly seem as though Kibou Botanicals is a legitimate business. Our research indicates that it is a prosperous company with multiple locations and a range of enthusiastic patrons. It may be lacking in industry approval or transparent background, but it appears to be well-regarded and poised for further success in the future.
No. Kibou Botanicals has yet to participate in the AKA’s GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) program. This is unfortunate, as it would go far toward lending the company some validity. The GMP program was set up to hold kratom processors accountable by requiring that they submit to third-party audits.
The GMP program is replete with a list of standards that vendors must follow across every stage of production and distribution. Failure to do so results in their disqualification from the GMP Standard Program, which would reflect poorly on any brand.
In summary, Kibou Botanicals is a relatively new brand with a lot of variety and a fair amount of loyal customer support. Unfortunately, it isn’t as exhaustive in its inventory of information as many of its competitors.
