Oscar Wilde famously said, “Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery that mediocrity can pay to greatness.” This barbed twist on the classic proverb might well be on many consumers’ minds when they discover Gold Leaf Botanicals. The name may sound familiar due to its similarity to Golden Leaf Botanicals, otherwise known as Kratom by Golden Leaf. You may even notice some similarities in Gold Leaf Botanicals’ packaging and design. If you’re wondering which of these vendors is better and how they actually compare, you’ll want to read on for our full Gold Leaf Botanicals Vendor Review.
Gold Leaf Botanicals is a West coast kratom vendor with facilities in the El Dorado County area of California. Located in the rustic “gold rush” town of Placerville, Gold Leaf Botanicals was purportedly founded on a desire to help people. While this is all well and good, we have to deduct points from this one’s score for going with such a hackneyed and broad back story. You have undoubtedly encountered at least five other kratom vendors with comparable About Us descriptions.
It doesn’t help that the company uses an obvious stock photo of students hanging out in a quad to illustrate the coalescence of Golden Leaf’s customer service team. This vendor’s weakest attempt at the exotic comes in the form of its Our Kratom section, wherein it says that they specialize in Wild-Harvested Kratom. As any kratom connoisseur can tell you, virtually all Mitragyna speciosa trees are grown and harvested in the wilds of Indonesia. There are only a select number of farmers who have had sweeping success with the cultivation of in-house kratom cultivars, which is why many vendors label these specimens Plantation Kratom or Private Reserve Kratom.
Gold Leaf Botanicals isn’t the first vendor to dress up its language in an attempt to stand out from the pack. Many brands have labeled select strains as “wildcraft,” but this does not denote anything other than what it sounds like. Wildcrafting is simply the practice of gathering herbs from the wild. At the end of the day, your specimens may be fresher and guaranteed organic, but they are unlikely to be stronger or more unique than those found on native plantations.
As we mentioned in our Kratom by Golden Leaf Botanicals review, Gold Leaf Kratom came along shortly after Kratom by Golden Leaf established its online store. It is worth noting that Kratom by Golden Leaf was already a popular smoke shop in Colorado and one of the first brick-and-mortar establishments to offer a variety of kratom products in the Rockies. By contrast, Gold Leaf Botanicals was never a part of land-based kratom sales, nor do its owners have any ethnobotanical experience we can point to.
What we do know is that Gold Leaf Botanicals is under the umbrella of In Sense Botanicals, another e-commerce site selling kratom powder. There is no record of consumers referencing this brand on social media platforms. On the contrary, the few positive comments that were made about In Sense Botanicals on sites like Reddit were identified as shilling. The associated accounts were deleted accordingly.
Let’s go back for a second and think about the name similarity between Golden Leaf Botanicals and Gold Leaf Botanicals. This is not accidental. Any vendor who would establish itself by immediately seeking to divert traffic from a legitimate business is hardly ethical, never mind legit. Plagiarism aside, Gold Leaf Botanicals lacks the consumer recognition and GMP accreditation to be taken seriously.
In all probability, Gold Leaf Botanicals, AKA In Sense Kratom, is not routinely submitted for independent third-party analysis. When you click on the site’s Lab page, it will tell you that it is tested for heavy metals and pathogens, but its actual lab results download yields an old and possibly fraudulent certificate of analysis from 2018.
The lab report in question is dated July 5, 2018, and the name of the supposed laboratory is deliberately cut off at the top, thereby obscuring not only the name of the lab but the address or phone number of the same. Therefore, there is no way to confirm or deny the veracity of this report. Upon closer inspection, we would have to declare this bogus. Based on our extensive experience with third-party labs, this report looks unlike any other certificate of analysis we have come across. It is suspiciously devoid of information and appears structurally inauthentic.
This California kratom supplier carries a wide assortment of plain leaf kratom strains and enhanced products. If there’s one good thing that can be said about Gold Leaf Kratom it’s that it has variety. On the other hand, its variety falls short of Kratom by Golden Leaf in terms of plain leaf kratom powders.
Gold Leaf Botanicals Top Kratom Powders : This vendor carries around 36 kratom strains in varying vein colors. It also produces signature kratom blends and enhanced kratom powders. By contrast, Kratom by Golden Leaf stocks 52 alluring strains from around Indonesia. That is 16 additional strains from a brand you can trust. Gold Leaf Botanicals’ collection includes all of the following:
Prices start at $2.87 for six grams, with an ounce going for $7.87. More on this in a moment.
Other Items : In addition to its plain leaf kratom powders, Gold Leaf Botanicals offers CBD extract, electronic scales, kratom blends, enhanced kratom teas, and limited edition super fine kratom. These items include its Fuzzy Dragon Blend, Golden Benulu Blend, and White Chocolate Borneo Blend. Prices vary depending on the product, but most blends start at $2.87.
As we mentioned above, all plain leaf kratom powders start at $2.87 for six grams, with an ounce selling for $7.87. You can pick up one hundred grams for $22.87, two hundred grams for $41.87, three hundred grams for $54.87, five hundred grams for $84.87, or a kratom kilo for $125.87. These prices are in keeping with the low end of the industry average. For example, many top names in the industry charge $120 for a kilo of dry powder. However, bulk kratom vendors have been selling kratom at a reduced price for years and many of them operate online stores. Ergo, it is hardly justifiable to buy questionable kratom powder from Gold Leaf Botanicals when you could get lab-tested bulk kratom for less on other sites.
Gold Leaf Botanicals uses two carriers—USPS and FedEx, respectively. If you know what’s good for you, you’ll upgrade to FedEx. Shipping delays at the post office have been a nightmare over the last two years. The following are your options:
This vendor touts its alleged satisfaction guarantee, but its return policy is clear about the limitations placed on that guarantee. You only have three days from the date of delivery to request a return. Unopened products generally receive store credit, while opened packages that have been partially used result in a partial refund. This is at the sole discretion of the company and its agents.
This vendor currently accepts cash, credit/debit cards, eChecks, Venmo, and more. Altcoins are a preferred currency at this time. If you pay by phone, you’ll be able to use Apple Pay, COD (Cash On Delivery), or PayPal.
Based on our extensive research, Gold Leaf Kratom lacks the recognition common of vendors in their fourth year in business. With the possible exception of a rather neutral review on I Love Kratom, the only attention this brand has gotten is on Double M Herbals. One Double M Herbals post looks suspiciously like something a shill would write, which isn’t exactly shocking when we consider the many attempts at shilling that were blocked by Reddit mods. The post in question is about as long as a chapter in a short book and deals with the reviewer’s experience with Green Riau. They use terms like FOMO and then explain what such abbreviations mean in parentheses. To say that this post (and others like it) feel disingenuous and staged would be an understatement. But don’t take it from us. Here is a brief excerpt from the post:
“This wild grown Green Riau seems likely to have been carefully harvested, and dried, with an eye to maintaining the full spectrum…that this local strain is appreciated for having…an internet acquaintance recounts the effects that Red Sumatra has on her, and it sounds in several ways similar to what I get from Green Riau. She got it from InSense Botanicals, which has the same owners as Gold Leaf, but uses plantation grown tea for their versions.”
After careful consideration, we have decided that Golden Leaf Botanicals is the clear winner of this battle. Gold Leaf Botanicals is not worthy of recommendation, nor would we encourage our readers to explore the subject on kratom forums. From the looks of it, all you’ll find are a lot of cheap hacks promising premium grade kratom they likely never tried. Gold Leaf Botanicals may have mid-range prices and wide variety, but it lacks the solid reputation and AKA approval typical of top-tier kratom brands.
